The Lake of the Ozarks has always held a special place in the hearts of Macey and Shane. The lake is where they met when working together one summer during college. The lake is where Shane proposed to Macey. So what better place to get married than – the lake?! After dating for about 3 years, Shane concocted the perfect ploy to surprise and propose to Macey. He had both families in on the ruse and told her they were planning a huge anniversary party for his parents in August of 2020 at the lake. Little did Macey know he was actually planning to propose. With the help of her siblings and both parents, she was completely surprised and of course said, “YES!”
The couple knew the lake was where so many of their favorite memories were made, so they had to tie the knot at the Lake of the Ozarks. They had visited many different venues, but when they saw the rooftop terrace overlooking the water at the Lodge of Four Seasons, they knew they found the perfect space to celebrate their wedding. Between the event planner at the venue and Macey’s sister, who owns Tasteful Palette Events, they were able to transform this beautiful, blank canvas into a magical space filled with greenery, potted plants and touches of white, black and gold.
To her shock, finding the perfect wedding gown was easier than expected. Macey, her sister and mom found “the one” at the second bridal boutique they visited and when she put it on, Macey just felt this was “the dress.” She loved the simplicity of the gown and was obsessed with the bow detail on the back. Shane was open to whatever Macey envisioned and in keeping with the black and white theme, he wore a traditional black tuxedo. The bridesmaids also wore champagne colored dresses to match the decor.
Macey found Lacey from Holland House Photography and fell in love with her style. Lacey did their engagement photos and made the couple feel so comfortable, it was easy to get natural smiles and capture their joy in the photos. Macey and Shane love working with Lacey so much that not only did Holland House do their engagement pics, but she also did the wedding photos, and now that their family has grown and they have added a baby, she is doing their family portraits.
The couple also used Tower Studios videographer, James, to capture their wedding day on film. Macey states, “James was so fun, everyone loved him and Lacey. I did not realize how important it was to pick vendors that I enjoyed being with both professionally and personally. I wanted to have a good time on our wedding day and they made it special.”
The ceremony was held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic church. Unfortunately, Macey’s father had unexpectedly had open heart surgery just a few months before the wedding. So for the days and weeks leading up to the big day, everyone was worried and constantly thinking about her dad, hoping he would be well enough to walk her down the aisle. So when that anticipated moment came, there was not a dry eye in the house as Dad proudly escorted his daughter to her groom. The couple said traditional vows at the ceremony in front of all of their guests, but afterwards, privately exchanged more intimate and personal vows. Macey says, “this moment where we told each other our private vows, just one-to-one, was so precious to me.”
After the church ceremony, the wedding party and guests headed to the Lodge of Four Seasons for dinner and a reception. Macey and Shane remember walking out onto the rooftop overlooking the lake and being amazed at how perfect everything looked. The entire family had worked for months, building backdrops, creating marquee letters, stuffing invitations and more. Macey advises engaged couples, “Make your ‘to do’ list fun! We had such a good time putting all these things together for the wedding and created a lot of hilarious memories working on projects, drawing us all closer.” They served a delicious, seated dinner of chicken or steak and had cheesecake for dessert while the sun was setting over the water. After sundown, the temperature was perfect with a slight breeze, and the DJ from Live Events made the evening a blast, getting everyone on their feet. The couple used cold sparklers to punctuate special moments, like when they made their grand entrance as ‘Mr. and Mrs.,’ or when Shane dipped Macey during their first dance. Plus the guests loved whenever the DJ set off the cold sparklers, elevating the mood and making the wedding truly memorable.
The following week, the couple set off to Punta Cana for a honeymoon at an all-inclusive resort. Macey says Shane is a big foodie and she loved watching him be amazed at all the food creations. They met two other couples who were also on their honeymoons and now they are planning a reunion for an anniversary trip.
Macey and Shane always have fun together and consider each other best friends. What better place to celebrate this water-born love affair than at the lake!
